1.  Acceptance

A good way to begin is by accepting that change is an unavoidable part of life and that many of the things that happen to you is beyond your control. For instance, you can’t control getting sick, how the economy behaves or losing your income due to events like Covid or the recession.

While acceptance can be tough, battling against circumstances or events that you have no control over, can be emotionally and physically draining. When you accept the situation, you can think of ways to improve the situation and focus your energy on the things that you do have control over.

Make a list of the things that you cannot control and allow yourself to let go and stop worrying. Think about what action you can take to find a solution. It helps to draw inspiration from past events. Looking back at times of change or uncertainty that you’ve overcome and what you did to cope.

2. Acknowledge Your Feelings

Sometimes it’s easier to stick our head in the sand and try to avoid painful or unpleasant emotions by putting on a courageous face. However, as unpleasant as these emotions are, they exist and the best way to move forward is to acknowledge and process them. Nothing offers the same health benefits as connecting with an empathetic and caring confidant. Even if you can’t see them face-to-face, modern technology with social media, texting, voice calling, or video calling allows you to stay in touch. Some friends are kind, empathetic, and good listeners, while others only exacerbate negative emotions.

Try to avoid or limit the time you spent with those who seem to make you feel worse and focus on spending time with people who lifts you up and keep you grounded.

5. Self-Care is Crucial

  1. Thank you so much. Slight issue when majority of your fam and friends have blocked you due to boundaries I have put in place. Breaking the cycle and people hate that. It is a lonely journey for sure and I feel like I’m crumbling into pieces. Good things broken things can still be fixed and useful again.

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting Cheri-lee. Yes, it can be a lonely road for sure and it’s not easy to put boundaries in place especially if it involves family and friends that you thought had your best interest at heart. But, long-term it will definitely benefit you because real friends and family that truly cares for you should be building you up instead of tearing you down. Never lose hope and believe in yourself. We often don’t realize how strong we are until we have no other choice.
