6 Natural Remedies For Sunburn Pain Relief

Aloe Vera

One of the best home remedies for sunburn pain relief is juice derived straight from the aloe plant. Simply cut open a leaf and extract the juice from inside, using a spoon, and apply it to the affected area. If you don’t have aloe plants that are readily available, you can buy Aloe Vera gel from pharmacies or health stores in your area.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of my favourite essential/carrier oils to use as home remedies. It is multifunctional and can do wonders for hair, skin, and even sunburn relief. Place a damp cloth on the affected area to cool it down first or take a bath or shower in cool (not cold) water. Add coconut oil gently to the sunburned area for it to slowly absorb into your skin.

Tea or Witch Hazel

Tea and witch hazel both have natural compounds named tannins that are excellent for reducing inflammation. You can use either one topically to offer relief from sunburn pain.

Pour cooled tea or witch hazel onto a cloth and place it over the affected area.  For an additional cooling sensation, you can add mint leaves to the tea while brewing.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a commonplace home remedy that is used for soothing skin irritation. You can make a paste with honey, milk and ground oats and apply it to the burned area.

You can also make a sachet, cheesecloth, or sock and fill it up with ground oatmeal and submerge it in bath water. Take a relaxing bath in the oatmeal infused water and squeeze the sachet every now and again to release more of the healing oatmeal goodness.

Hydration

After getting a sunburn, it’s possible that you may feel a bit dehydrated. Eat plenty of hydrating foods (like watermelon, oranges, or grapes) and drink loads of water to put the moisture back into your body and skin.

Corn Starch or Baking Soda

There are various ways to use corn starch or baking soda to soothe sunburned skin.

  • Make a paste with baking soda or corn starch and gently add it to the painful areas.
  • Dust your skin with corn starch to reduce friction between your clothing and sunburned skin.
  • Run a lukewarm bath and add baking soda to the water before taking a bath.

Conclusion

Sunburn is something that happens to all of us and can be quite painful and uncomfortable to deal with. Excessive exposure to the sun can be harmful and leave permanent skin damage. It could result in dark spots, skin cancer, changes in skin texture, and wrinkles.

If you experience any of these symptoms: fever, blisters, chills, dizziness, or nausea in conjunction with sunburn, you should consult your doctor immediately as it could be an indication of a more serious condition called sun poisoning.

Even if you stay out of the sun as much as possible and do not get sunburned often, it is smart to have regular skin check-ups. Skin cancer is treatable when it is diagnosed in the early stages.

I hope you have found these six natural remedies for sunburn pain relief useful and will remember to try some of them the next time you’ve spent a little too much time in the sun.

Sending you lots of light, healing sensations, and sunny vibes
