In this post, I will be sharing a few useful habits for good heart health. Your heart is one of the most essential organs in your body, that is why it is imperative that you do everything in your power to keep it healthy.
8 Easy Habits for Good Heart Health
Avoid Sitting for Prolonged Periods
If you don’t exercise regularly, try to stay active. You can do simple things like climb the stairs instead of riding the elevator. After sitting down for an hour or two, get up and walk to the kitchen to pour a glass of water or take a brisk walk during your lunch hour.
Eat Healthy
Eating healthy does not necessarily mean you have to eat bland and boring meals. There are so many options out there. Make yourself a healthy chicken salad for lunch. One of my favourite’s is a chicken salad with feta and carrots added to the mix.
Mediterranean diets include loads of delicious foods that are healthy, like fish, olive oil, whole grains, nuts, fruits, and lean protein. These foods are excellent for heart health because of the high content of “good” fats. You will also be more likely to stick to this eating plan because the food is just so delicious!
Avoid Too Much Alcohol
For most individuals, moderate drinking that includes a glass of wine per day for women, and up to two glasses for men, is acceptable. Excessive drinking on a regular basis however, raises levels of specific fats in your blood as well as blood pressure. Try to stick to the recommended daily limit.
Keep Tabs On Your Numbers
Do you know what your cholesterol level is? How about checking your blood pressure regularly? They could be dangerously high without you even realizing. Going for regular checks, starting at age twenty can only benefit you and keep you in the loop about your health status.
Start as Soon as Possible
Don’t wait to start implementing healthy habits for heart health until you think it is the right age. It is never too early to start taking care of your heart. Exercise, follow a healthy eating plan, keep tabs on your numbers, and stay active from as early as possible.
Keep an Eye on Your Waist
Belly fat is one of the culprits that are really bad for your heart. If your waist measures more than thirty-five inches for women and forty inches for men, it is usually a red flag. Stay away from fad diets and unhealthy slimming products. Rather do it the right way through exercise and a healthy diet. Start slowly with low impact exercising and gradually work your way towards a healthier waistline. Even losing a small amount at first is better than not losing anything at all.
Do not Ignore The Blues
It can be hard to exercise and eat healthy when you are feeling down or overwhelmed. If these feelings continue for a few weeks, speak to your doctor or seek help from a mental health professional. Exercise, talk therapy, and medication (when needed) can do wonders to boost your mood and get you back to your old self.
Steer Clear From Inhaling Second Hand Smoke
Second hand smoke is particularly bad for your blood vessels and heart. Try to avoid it whenever possible. Ask people politely not to smoke around you, whether in the car, at home, or at the office. It might just help them as well. Not smoking around you might help them to smoke less or quit the habit entirely.
