Solar Sisters Coffee Shop Review

Today’s post covers my review of Solar Sisters coffee shop.  A few days ago I had some time off and decided to go for a walk around Guildford with a friend. We were trying to decide where to go for a cup of coffee and a chat and she suggested we walk around for a while and then we can decide where to go.

While on our walk, we discovered this wonderful eco-friendly coffee shop …. Solar Sisters Coffee Shop. The name in itself was already a point of interest, but that’s not all that makes this coffee shop a place well worth visiting.

On Our Way To Making Our Discovery..

What I most enjoy is the vibe that emulates from a coffee shop when you feel comfortable to be yourself and take your time, and really just relax.  Some cafes and coffee shops emit more of a fast paced atmosphere where its a case of grabbing a coffee on the go, or as soon as you’re finished your coffee, that’s it!  You get the sense that you’ve had your coffee, and now it’s time to leave.
So, when offered the choice of multiple places, I will try to look out for the more independent and original places to see what else is available.  My friend and I walked up a little side alley laid with cobble stones and small shops on either side. There was a cozy little independent cafe with quite a few people sitting down which to us, is always a good sign.

Stumbling Upon Solar Sisters Coffee Shop

My friend and I continued to walk up the high street and came across this bakery stall where everything looked like it had been baked that day. It was difficult to choose only one thing to buy! I ended up buying a small cheese and onion Focaccia which we shared as we walked further up the high street.
The weather was being a little indecisive – on one side it was overcast, while in the opposite direction, it was blue skies and sunny. We walked around the corner and came across this uniquely different coffee shop called Solar Sisters. I asked my friend which place she’d prefer to go to, the one we had seen earlier or this one. She said she didn’t mind either way.

A Bit of Background

Solar Sisters is a quaint community-interest establishment  in Guildford that emphasizes on zero waste shopping. The company was founded by sisters Nina and Lucy in 2021 and offer much more than simply a zero waste shop. They also host interesting community events like art clubs, yoga classes and book clubs. Their menu includes plant-based afternoon tea, breakfast and lunch varieties, and is 95% vegan-friendly (they offer milk for tea and coffee and cheese for their toast sandwiches).

The refill ranges are topnotch quality and you have the option to bring your own jars or paper bags to stock up on foods like nuts, rice, beans, quinoa, snacks, pulses, chocolate, couscous, pasta, grains, and sweets, to name a few.  You can also buy things like hand soap, conditioner, shower gel, shampoo, and things like cleaning vinegar,  laundry soap, and bicarb.  So, if you’re on the hunt for a coffee shop that’s  unique and offer way more than simply coffee and tea, this is the one!

What I Loved Most About Solar Sisters Coffee Shop

We walked into this shop and it almost seemed as if we were transported into a sense of tranquil serenity with its colourful decor, interesting menu options, and range of products  on offer. It is the type of place where all your woes and worries are left at the door and you can escape to a place of relaxation and tranquility.
Gentle music was playing in the background and a few individual coffee tables had shelves underneath with books available for reading,  in case you forgot yours at home. What makes this gem of a coffee shop even more special is that it also sells organic herbs and spices, in addition to art works and ceramics.

This coffee shop offers  a truly unique experience with it’s wide range of herbs or spices to whip up culinary delights at home later. You can  invest in a few individualistic artwork pieces, or perhaps buy a  beautiful handmade ceramic piece to spruce up your interior design.
Pop in for a cup of coffee or tea, or have a quick bite to eat, while reading one of the books available to the public. You can choose from a healthy and  delicious range of breakfast and lunch menu options.

Final Thoughts

The owners of Solar Sisters coffee shop were not there the day we visited but I’d like to say thank you for making your dream a reality; thank you for creating this little piece of paradise in the middle of Guildford. I’ll definitely be back to visit this beautiful place again with the amazing staff and fantastic service.
