Today I am sharing why it’s important to maintain your religious and spiritual beliefs during the good and bad times. Religion or spirituality is what keeps us grounded and it’s a way to find hope, comfort, meaning, and inner peace, especially during challenging times. Many individuals find spirituality through religion while others find it through art, music, or a deep connection with nature. For others, it is through their principles and values.
How Is Spirituality Linked To Health?
The answer is not hundred percent clear, however, our minds, bodies, and spirits are connected. The health of any of these elements is intertwined and affects each other. Some research even suggests that there is a connection between your sense of well-being and beliefs.
Comfort, strength, and positive beliefs that sprout from meditation, prayer, spirituality, or religion can positively contribute to your well-being. In some cases, it can promote healing. Spiritual health might not cure sickness, but the sense of inner peace you have because of it can make you feel better. It can also help you cope better with stress that can lead to health issues.
Why It’s Important To Maintain Your Religious and Spiritual Beliefs Through Good & Bad Times
Spiritual and religious beliefs provide us with a deeper meaning of life. It gives us a deeper connection with not only a higher power but also the people that share our lives. It provides us with more clarity when we need to make everyday decisions. Our actions become more constant with our values and beliefs.
When we experience challenging days with hardly any room for reflection and downtime, our minds can become consumed with the chaos of our lives, and we start to lose sight of what is important to us and what we are passionate about. When we lack a clear sense of direction it may lead to feelings of hopelessness and despair.
That is why we need to take a step back, re-energize our soul, reflect and rethink our purpose in life. Many spiritual and religious practices have been around for centuries, offering inner peace, compassion for others, empathy, and a sense of fulfilment when we touch someone else’s life positively.
How Do We Maintain Our Spirituality and Religion Beliefs?
Reading and Contemplation
Choose a daily book to read, whether it is daily affirmations, the Bible, or a book with inspirational quotes – whatever gives you the inner peace you need. Take your time to read the words, let them sink in, and reflect on them. To get into a positive mindset it helps to do this daily as part of your normal routine.
Meditation
Meditation is a wonderful practice to give you a sense of greater self and view yourself from the inside out. It makes room for contemplation and self-awareness. Even if you meditate for only 10 minutes per day, it can help you feel calmer and harness your thoughts. It can give you the strength to conquer whatever comes your way.
Prayer
For many prayer is a substantial part of their religion. It keeps them rooted in their faith and helps them to stay connected spiritually. It is also a calming source that gives them the peace of mind that they can share their worries, knowing and trusting that a higher power will help them make it through.
Journaling
Keeping a journal can provide you with a state of mindfulness. For many, being able to write their frustrations, triumphs and worries help them make sense of it all. It can also assist you with identifying unhealthy feelings or habits that might be keeping you back. Being honest with yourself and writing down what you’re going through can be cathartic and help you to fully process and acknowledge your feelings.
Your Journey To Improved Spiritual Health
If you are looking to improve your spiritual health, you can try to do the following:
- Identify what gives you a sense of comfort, love, inner peace, strength, connection, and purpose.
- Allocate time each day to do things that assist you religiously or spiritually. It might be volunteer work, reading inspirational quotes, meditating, taking nature walks, or praying.
- Don’t be too hard on yourself – we are only human. We get those days that no matter what we do, we can’t seem to get ourselves out of the deep dark hole we experience. Just take one day in its stride and keep working on improving your spiritual journey.
Final Thoughts
Have a good hard look at your life. Have you changed or grown over the past few years? Are you currently the best version of yourself that you can be? What can you do to bring forth positive change? We are all a magnificent work in progress and the road to self-improvement is not always a quick or easy one – just stay on the journey.
