Today, I will be sharing 6 tips on how to set up a good night time routine. Getting into the habit of having a solid night time routine is essential for overall health and wellbeing.
Even during lockdown, having a good routine during the day and also at night is crucial. My tips on how to set up a good night time routine might be a slightly different routine than what you had before, but no less important.
Why is it Essential to Have a Good Night Time Routine?
You Need Some Time to Wind Down
Having a solid evening routine permits you to have some time to mentally and physically decompress after a tiresome and long day. It is impossible to fall asleep when you have a million things running through your head. Your mind and body needs to wind down to help you feel relaxed and fall asleep much easier.
It is ok to derail sometimes, but establishing a solid night time routine will assist with tying up loose ends and to physically calm your body and settle down for bed. This way you can enjoy a good night’s rest and wake up feeling rejuvenated and well rested to tackle the new day.
6 Tips on How to Set Up a Good Night Time Routine
1. Start by Relaxing and Unwinding
This is the first step in your evening routine. If you have not started relaxing and unwinding, then narrow down a few practices or hobbies that helps you to relax.
Try to ignore emails, texts, or anything to do with work and do something that you enjoy like reading a book, having a cup of tea with your partner, journaling, or meditation. Self care is incredibly important, and there are so many ways to do so. Run a bubble bath, pour yourself a glass of wine, put on your favourite music, and just unwind and relax for half an hour or an hour.
2. Preparation
Get yourself organized and prepare yourself for the next day. Pack your bag and make lunch the night before so that there is less rushing around in the morning.
Maybe you no longer need to pack a lunch, but at least have a rough idea of what you plan to eat for lunch the following day. This will save a few minutes the next day trying to decide what to make for lunch if you are working from home.
3. Consistency is Key
Doing the same things in the same order each night will help your body and mind to know when its time to start settling down for sleep, even if time frames differ slightly, your body will still know when it is bed time.
4. Electronics
Blue screens keep us awake for longer. If possible wear blue blocker glasses if you need to use electronic devices. Before bed or dim the screen at night to help lessen the blue light. If possible, avoid screen time for at least an hour before bed to promote good sleep. Turn all devices off and read a book instead – although this is sometimes easier said than done!
5. Comfortable Sleep Wear
Changing into your favourite pair of pajamas and climb into a freshly made bed is one of the best feelings, especially if you have just had a lovely relaxing bath. However, if your pajamas are too tight or too small, too cold or too warm, your body will be uncomfortable and automatically wake you up during the night.
Make sure you have light pajamas for Summer and cosier and warmer pajamas for Winter. Avoid pajamas that are too tight or don’t fit well. The key is to feel comfortable and ready for sleep. If you are bold enough, you could try sleeping naked, it is reportedly meant to be really good for you.
6. Time Management
Make sure to leave enough time to do all the things you need to before you want to go to sleep. There is very little point in rushing around last thing at night trying to get everything done and then trying to calm yourself down and fall asleep.
I don’t know about you, but I struggle to fall asleep without a guided meditation. It doesn’t do me any good to rush around like crazy, trying to finish everything and making sure I get enough sleep in before the next day as well. I need to have peace and calm before bed to help my body and mind wind down.
Conclusion
I hope you have found these 6 tips on how to set up a good night time routine useful and that you will give all or some of them a try to see if it works for you too.
Sending you much light, love, and restful vibes.
